Lucid Motors has unveiled upgrades for the 2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring, the premier variant of its luxury sedan lineup, aiming to elevate performance and efficiency. With a focus on enhancing the driving experience, Lucid introduces key improvements to address cold-weather range loss and optimize charging capabilities.
One significant enhancement is the integration of a heat pump, a feature previously introduced in the high-performance Sapphire model. This addition promises improved efficiency during cold weather and extended journeys, tackling common challenges faced by electric vehicles in low temperatures. Lucid joins the ranks of automakers embracing heat pump technology, following in the footsteps of industry leaders like Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, General Motors, and Rivian.
Moreover, Lucid claims a notable enhancement in DC charging speed, offering approximately 15-30% faster charging for the 2024 Air Grand Touring. The introduction of improved automatic battery preconditioning further optimizes charging speeds, ensuring maximum efficiency during the charging process.
Changes to the motors, battery cell chemistry, and thermal characteristics contribute to reduced waste heat, enabling the Grand Touring to maintain peak performance even during sustained spirited driving, according to Lucid.
Despite these upgrades, the 2024 Air Grand Touring retains its impressive EPA-estimated 516-mile range, solidifying its position as a long-range electric sedan. Pricing starts at $111,400, including the mandatory $1,500 destination charge, positioning it above other Air variants in the lineup.
