Polestar is giving its flagship SUV, the Polestar 3, a significant overhaul for the 2026 model year. The updates include faster charging, more power, and a substantial boost in computing capability.
The most notable upgrade is the introduction of an 800-volt electrical system, enabling the Polestar 3 to charge at speeds of up to 350 kW. This means that a 10-80% charge can now be achieved in just 22 minutes, representing a 25% reduction in charging time compared to the previous model. Additionally, the new system improves efficiency by up to 6% on the WLTP cycle.
Two new battery options, supplied by CATL, will be available for the 2026 Polestar 3: a 92 kWh pack for the single-motor Rear motor version and a 106 kWh pack for the Dual motor and Performance models. These upgrades, combined with faster charging and improved efficiency, make the Polestar 3 even more suitable for long road trips.
All versions of the 2026 Polestar 3 will feature a new in-house developed permanent magnet synchronous rear motor paired with an asynchronous front motor. The Performance model will now deliver up to 500 kW (671 horsepower). To maximize efficiency, the front motor can disconnect when not needed, while the rear-biased setup enhances handling. Polestar has also updated the anti-roll bars and steering software to further refine the driving experience.
The Polestar 3 will also receive a next-generation core computer, powered by the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor. This upgrade represents a significant boost in processing power, from 30 TOPS to 254 TOPS – an eightfold increase. This enhancement will enable faster and more intelligent management of safety systems, battery performance, and sensor data.
Notably, Polestar will offer this hardware upgrade as a free retrofit to all existing Polestar 3 owners starting in early 2026, setting the brand apart from its competitors.
For the 2026 model year, the Polestar 3 lineup has been simplified into three trims: Rear motor, Dual motor, and Performance. The Performance model will come with standard active air suspension and distinctive gold seatbelts, while the Dual motor and Rear motor versions will feature unique trim touches.
Polestar has also streamlined its options with new pack structures, including a Climate pack and a Prime pack that bundles together Pilot, Plus, and Climate. The Bowers & Wilkins audio system with active noise cancellation will be available as a standalone option or as part of the Plus pack.
Minor design tweaks include a new Storm exterior color and updated door graphics. Inside, the Polestar 3 will now come standard with sustainable Bio-attributed MicroTech upholstery and repurposed aluminum trim.
The upgraded Polestar 3 will launch in the UK first, before being rolled out to other markets later.
