Today, we’re presenting the second rendering of the 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe Facelift, offering a clearer glimpse into its evolving design. The Santa Fe has long been a cornerstone of Hyundai’s SUV lineup, but the fifth-generation model (MX5), launched in 2023, fell short of expectations. This latest rendering from our colleagues at Gotcha Cars highlights Hyundai’s commitment to addressing feedback, particularly by overhauling the most criticized element: the rear design. What are your thoughts on this anticipated look?

From Polarizing to Polished: The New Styling Direction

The facelifted Santa Fe is poised for one of Hyundai’s most ambitious mid-cycle design overhauls in recent years. Drawing from initial spy photos and renderings, the SUV will adopt Hyundai’s cutting-edge “Art of Steel” design language, initially unveiled on the next-generation NEXO.

Key updates include:

  • Revamped front fascia featuring slimmer headlights and side-placed DRLs, ditching the existing bulky configuration.
  • A more elegant four-bar grille with seamless integration, departing from the rugged, Land Rover-esque aesthetic.
  • Smoother side profiles accented by horizontal moldings that highlight width over sheer mass.
  • Vertical taillights at the rear, connected by a spanning horizontal brake light bar, along with a repositioned license plate for an elevated, luxurious vibe.
  • A matte skid plate paired with gloss-black accents, blending toughness with refinement.

The result? A less boxy, more aerodynamic profile that positions the Santa Fe as a premium contender, akin to the Tucson and Hyundai’s top-tier Palisade.

Why the Design Change Matters

The existing Santa Fe’s bold, off-road-oriented styling aimed to set it apart in the competitive midsize SUV segment. However, it ended up turning off shoppers who favored the sleeker profiles of competitors such as the Kia Sorento or Toyota Highlander. With sales declining through early 2025—despite the hybrid variant’s arrival—this facelift offers Hyundai a pivotal opportunity to recapture market share.

By syncing the Santa Fe with Hyundai’s contemporary design ethos, the refresh aims to expand its reach, appealing to families and city dwellers seeking a blend of style and utility.

Mechanical Upgrade: Transmission Fix

In tandem with the visual refresh, Hyundai has announced a significant mechanical enhancement: All 2.5-liter turbocharged Santa Fe variants will replace the much-maligned eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with a more reliable torque-converter automatic. This addresses longstanding issues like hesitant low-speed performance, rough gear changes, and frequent warranty service.

The change will extend to the Hyundai Santa Cruz, which uses the identical powertrain. Meanwhile, the hybrid Santa Fe retains its 1.6-liter turbo engine paired with a refined six-speed automatic.

Release Timeline

The 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe Facelift is slated for a reveal in late 2026 or early 2027, introducing the updated transmission and styling as key highlights.
