Tesla Now Selling Retrofit Turn Signal Stalks for Model 3 in the US

Tesla has started selling retrofit turn signal stalks for Model 3 vehicles in the US, after initially removing them in the 2023 Model 3 Highland refresh. The stalks were first made available in China for around $350, but are now available in the US for $595.

The removal of the turn signal stalk was a controversial decision made by Tesla as part of its cost-cutting measures. While some drivers adapted to using the buttons on the steering wheel or relying on FSD to signal lane changes, many others missed the convenience and familiarity of a traditional turn signal stalk.

In January 2025, Tesla released the Model Y Juniper refresh, which included the return of the turn signal stalk. Shortly after, Tesla’s head engineer Lars Moravy admitted that the company may have “deleted too much” in the Model 3 refresh. Now, Tesla is rectifying the issue by making the retrofit turn signal stalks available to Model 3 owners.

The retrofit includes the turn signal stalk, steering wheel, and column control module, and is available for Model 3 vehicles produced in 2024 or 2025. Interestingly, the stalks are more widely available in North America than in China, where only vehicles produced after February 7, 2025 qualify for the retrofit.

Model 3 owners can schedule an appointment for the retrofit through Tesla’s website or mobile app. The installation includes shipping and labor costs.

What’s Next for Tesla?

It’s worth noting that the “more affordable” Standard Model 3 has been reintroduced with a turn signal stalk, suggesting that Tesla may be revisiting its design decisions. For now, the $595 retrofit is available to Model 3 owners who want to regain the convenience of a traditional turn signal stalk.
