Subaru WRX and BRZ Sales Slump Amidst Rising Prices
Car enthusiasts, if you want to keep exciting car options alive, you need to buy them. However, purchasing a new vehicle is challenging at the moment. The Subaru WRX and BRZ are experiencing a sales slowdown.
The WRX has been particularly affected by rising costs, with its base price increasing by nearly $10,000 since the 2022 update. As a result, WRX sales are down 41% year-to-date in 2025. Subaru attributes this decline to making room on dealer lots for updated Forester and Outback models.
Meanwhile, the BRZ is also slumping, with sales down over 8% year-to-date. October sales figures show a significant drop from 365 units in 2024 to 182 units in 2025.
Sales Figures
| Model | Oct 2025 Sales | Oct 2024 Sales | YTD 2025 | YTD 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Subaru BRZ | 182 | 365 | 2,466 | 2,688 |
| Subaru WRX | 720 | 1,637 | 8,859 | 15,182 |
The decline in sales is concerning, especially given the lack of affordable sports cars in the market. Subaru has eliminated the base BRZ trim for the 2026 model year, with the starting price now north of $37,000.
The State of Affordable Sports Cars
The term “affordable” has lost its resonance, especially among enthusiasts who want to support their favorite car brands. While fans may be enthusiastic about purchasing a sports car, they also need to be able to afford it.
