Rivian R1T Refresh Models Spotted in Cold Weather Testing in Alaska

Posted on February 8, 2024 by thecruisectrlr

Recent sightings of camouflaged Rivian R1T pickup trucks conducting cold weather tests in Fairbanks, Alaska, have sparked speculation about potential refresh models from the electric vehicle manufacturer. Covered in camouflage wraps, the units are believed to be undergoing testing for upgrades, with many suggesting a focus on improving winter performance, possibly through the integration of a heat pump.

Fairbanks, known for its frigid temperatures and Arctic conditions, offers an ideal location for extreme weather testing, attracting companies like Rivian to evaluate vehicle performance in harsh environments. With temperatures often dropping below -30°F during the winter months, Fairbanks provides ample opportunities for rigorous testing.

Last year, rumors surfaced regarding Rivian’s plans to launch refreshed R1T and R1S models, along with introducing a new trim called “Ascent.” Additionally, anticipation builds for Rivian’s upcoming reveal of the R2 compact SUV in March, raising speculation that advanced design elements or components from the R2 could make their way into existing models during the rumored refresh later this year.
