Toyota has made a bold move by simultaneously unveiling two high-performance prototypes—the GR GT and GR GT3—through its Gazoo Racing division. This marks a significant shift for the brand, signaling its intention to rival elite performance manufacturers rather than resting on its reputation for practical vehicles like Camrys and hybrids.

Hyundai is emerging as a dark horse in the US with plans to ramp up capacity

  • A fresh 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with hybrid assistance for razor-sharp throttle response
  • 641+ horsepower and 627+ lb-ft of torque
  • Front-engine layout with a rear-mounted transaxle for optimal 45:55 weight distribution
  • Pioneering all-aluminum space frame construction

Toyota’s engineering team prioritized a radical low center of gravity, aligning it with the driver’s position—achieved through a dry-sump system, a deep-mounted battery, and an aggressively lowered cockpit. Aerodynamics dictated the design, with World Endurance Championship veterans sculpting the body for maximum efficiency before aesthetics were considered. The result? A claimed top speed exceeding 199 mph.

GR GT3: The Track Specialist
Derived directly from the GR GT, the GT3 variant adheres to FIA racing regulations while retaining core elements:

  • The same hybrid V8 powertrain and aluminum chassis foundation
  • Aerodynamic focus honed for competition
  • Built to dominate GT3-class racing circuits

Both models are projected to launch in 2027, underscoring Toyota’s commitment to establishing Gazoo Racing as a global performance powerhouse.
