Lucid Motors Announces Midsize EV Lineup Starting Around $50,000
Lucid Motors (LCID) has confirmed its upcoming midsize electric vehicles will target the affordable luxury segment, with prices starting near $50,000—a move positioned to compete in the heart of the EV market.
Launch Timeline and Platform Strategy
While ramping up production of its luxury Gravity SUV, Lucid is developing a new midsize platform expected to debut by late 2026 or 2027. According to CFO Taoufiq Boussaid at the UBS Global Industrials and Transportation Conference, the platform will underpin three distinct models. This approach aims to reduce costs and streamline scalability while maintaining the brand’s premium DNA.
The first vehicle will be a midsize crossover SUV, followed by a rugged variant inspired by the Gravity X Concept. A third model—rumored to be a Tesla Model 3 rivaling sedan—remains unconfirmed. Despite the lower price point, Lucid emphasizes these vehicles will retain luxury features aligned with its Air and Gravity SUVs.
Targeting Tesla’s Core Market
Former CEO Peter Rawlinson had previously highlighted Lucid’s goal to compete directly with Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 lineup. Bousstated echoed this ambition, noting the challenge lies in delivering Lucid’s signature quality at a $50,000 starting price.
Production and Market Outlook
Initial production will begin in Saudi Arabia, with full capacity expected by 2029. Meanwhile, Lucid reports strong demand for the Gravity SUV, with “encouraging signs” of rising foot traffic and test drives. Boussaid anticipates Q4 could be a robust quarter despite broader EV market headwinds, such as the expiration of U.S. tax credits for some competitors.
In Europe, Lucid continues expanding its Gravity launch, banking on its luxury appeal and performance to sustain growth.
