Kia Seltos Revamp Takes Cues From EVs – But Skips Electric Powertrain

Kia’s popular compact SUV returns with a bold redesign mirroring its electric models like the EV9, but the automaker confirms the new Seltos will not offer a fully electric variant. The updated model instead debuts a first-ever hybrid powertrain (arriving in 2026) alongside a standard 1.6-liter gas engine.

Key Updates:

  • EV-Inspired Design: Features the brand’s “Opposites United” aesthetic, star-map lighting, flush door handles, and an upright stance akin to Kia’s EV lineup.
  • Hybrid Powertrain: Details remain scarce, but Kia promises “higher efficiency” for the hybrid launching next year.
  • V2L Capability: Borrowed from EVs, the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) tech lets the Seltos power external devices—a rarity in hybrids.
  • Larger Dimensions: Built on the new K3 platform (shared with Hyundai Kona/Kia Niro), the Seltos grows ~2 inches longer, boosting cargo space to a class-leading 536 liters.

Tech-Focused Interior:

A dual 12.3-inch curved display dominates the cabin, housing the driver cluster and infotainment system, plus a 5-inch climate-control screen. The redesigned cabin emphasizes connectivity and practicality, with flexible storage options tailored for road trips.

No EV Plans Confirmed:

Kia CEO Ho Sung Song clarified, “We don’t have any plan for an EV option,” citing existing electric SUVs like the EV3 and Niro EV as alternatives.

Availability:

Production begins in India this month, with global launches (including North America and Europe) rolling out through 2026.
