Ford has launched production of an all-electric Bronco SUV—but exclusively in China. The vehicle, dubbed the “All-Terrain Camping SUV,” marks another EV model unavailable to U.S. buyers despite the Bronco’s American heritage.

Key Details

  • Production Site: Built at Ford’s Nanchang plant via its joint venture with Jiangling Motors (JMC), the electric Bronco is the facility’s 200,000th vehicle.
  • Investment: The JV spent $42.5 million upgrading the plant for new energy vehicle (NEV) production.
  • Powertrains:
    • Full EV: 105.4 kWh BYD battery, 404 miles (650 km CLTC range), dual-motor AWD (445 hp).
    • EREV (Extended-Range Plug-In Hybrid): 43.7 kWh battery + 1.5L engine, 137 miles (220 km) electric range, 758 miles (1,220 km) total range.
  • Design: Matches the U.S. Bronco’s size (length: 5,025 mm / 197.8 in) but includes China-focused upgrades like a built-in 7.5L refrigerator and optional 70-inch AR head-up display.

Market Strategy

  • Pricing: Starts at 229,800 RMB ($32,300) for the base EV, rising to 282,800 RMB ($40,000) for premium trims.
  • Availability: Orders opened in November 2025, targeting Chinese consumers seeking rugged, tech-forward EVs.
  • No U.S. Plans: Ford has confirmed a plug-in hybrid Bronco for Europe but no fully electric version for North America.

Why It Stands Out

The Chinese-market Bronco EV highlights Ford’s regional priorities, prioritizing high-demand EV markets like China over its home territory. Its adventurous styling combined with localized features (like extreme off-road modes and camping-friendly utilities) positions it as a niche leader—but one Americans can’t buy.
