Acura ZDX production discontinued

Acura has discontinued its first electric vehicle, the Acura ZDX electric SUV, just after announcing the end of production for the Acura TLX sedan. According to an internal memo obtained by Car Dealership Guy, the decision to pull the plug on the ZDX EV was driven by slower-than-expected adoption rates in the US market and recent policy changes affecting EV production and sales.

The Acura ZDX EV was meant to be the brand’s foray into the electric era, boasting premium styling, cutting-edge technology, and access to the expanding DC fast-charging network. However, its discontinuation is a testament to the challenges automakers face in the evolving EV market, where intense competition and slower adoption rates are forcing companies to reassess their strategies.

Acura is not alone in scaling back its EV plans. Other automakers, such as Nissan, Porsche, and Stellantis, have also adjusted their electric vehicle strategies in response to consumer hesitation and shifting government regulations. With the ZDX electric SUV and TLX sedan out of the lineup, Acura is seemingly reevaluating its product roadmap to strike a balance between traditional models and its transition to electrification.
