Toyota Issues Another Recall for 127,000 Vehicles with 3.5-Liter V6 Engines

Toyota is recalling 127,000 trucks and SUVs in the US due to potential engine problems. The affected vehicles are the 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra, 2022-2024 Lexus LX, and 2024 Lexus GX, all equipped with non-hybrid versions of the twin-turbo V35A V6 engine.

The Problem

The issue is related to leftover machining debris from the manufacturing process, which can cause catastrophic engine failure. The debris can restrict lubrication, leading to engine knocking, stalling, or outright failure.

Affected Vehicles

  • 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra
  • 2022-2024 Lexus LX
  • 2024 Lexus GX

What to Expect

Toyota will notify owners of the affected vehicles by January 2026. The company is currently developing a remedy, which may involve replacing the affected engines. This is not the first time Toyota has issued a recall for this issue, having recalled over 100,000 vehicles in 2024 for the same problem.

Background

The recall is related to improper cleaning during production, which can leave behind small particles in the engine’s crankshaft oil passages. These particles can cause engine problems, including knocking, stalling, or failure.

Toyota says it will notify owners of the affected vehicles by January 2026. The company is working on a remedy, which may involve replacing the affected engines.
