Bugatti’s upcoming successor to the Chiron has sparked a flurry of excitement and speculation among automotive enthusiasts. Recent reports shed light on fascinating details about the highly anticipated supercar.
According to sources, the new Bugatti model will feature a groundbreaking 90-degree V16 engine, departing from the quad-turbocharged W16 of its predecessor. Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti-Rimac, revealed that the engine alone measures 39.4 inches long, signaling a significant departure from conventional powertrain configurations.
Rimac’s persistence in championing this new engine design over previous electric vehicle concepts has paid off, with Volkswagen Group executives backing the innovative approach. The V16 powerplant, developed with assistance from Cosworth, boasts an impressive output of approximately 1,000 metric horsepower, complemented by an additional 800 horsepower from a hybrid element.
Unlike traditional turbocharged engines, Bugatti’s new PHEV model will prioritize a free-breathing V16 setup. Reports suggest that the hybrid system will include three electric motors, delivering a substantial power boost and enabling impressive acceleration figures. The car is projected to weigh under 4,400 pounds, enhancing its agility and performance capabilities.
Speculations hint at acceleration times ranging from two seconds for 0-62 mph to under 25 seconds for a top speed of 249 mph. Additionally, leaked details suggest a potential top speed of 342 mph, surpassing the Chiron’s capabilities.
The official reveal is expected next month, with production likely limited to 300 units or fewer, adding to the exclusivity of Bugatti’s latest creation.
