Introducing the Genesis GV90: A New Era of Luxury SUVs

After our colleagues at SH Proshots revealed the highly anticipated Genesis GV90 and its pillarless door system, we are excited to unveil the first-ever spy photos. Contrary to initial expectations, the GV90’s interior will not be limited to the exclusive purple color. Spy photos from Healer TV reveal two new interior color trim options: a striking full black and vanilla-dark blue.

A Glimpse at the Future of Genesis Design

The captured prototype showcases Genesis’s innovative approach to automotive design. Despite heavy camouflage, the GV90’s sleek, elongated silhouette and flush-fitting doors hint at a pillarless construction, setting the stage for one of the most daring SUV designs in the premium segment. Recent U.S. patent filings support these visual clues, detailing an advanced door sealing structure engineered specifically for vehicles without a traditional B-pillar.

Innovation in Door Design: The Next Level of Luxury

According to the newly published patent, Genesis has developed a multi-layer door sealing system designed to deliver airtight integrity, exceptional noise insulation, and premium weather protection. The patent outlines a sophisticated arrangement that includes:

  • A first door hinge-connected to the vehicle body
  • A second, rear-hinged door that connects to the first door and mounts to the vehicle frame
  • A door outer parting seal positioned adjacent to the outer surface of the first door
  • A weather strip on the first door that contacts the front edge of the second door for extra insulation
  • An inner parting seal on the second door that provides the deepest layer of protection

This advanced configuration ensures that the Genesis GV90’s pillarless, rear-hinged doors deliver the same structural integrity, quietness, and aerodynamic efficiency as conventional designs—without compromising luxury or performance.

The Technology Behind the Transformation

This latest patent complements two previously uncovered Genesis filings: “CINCHING DEVICE FOR DOOR LATCHES IN VEHICLE” and “DOOR LATCH DEVICE FOR VEHICLES.” These patents describe the intricate mechanical systems responsible for the GV90’s coach-style doors:

  • Cinching Device: Utilizes a cinching actuator and lead screw mechanism for smooth, secure door closure. A spring structure compensates for variations in latch motion, ensuring flawless sealing and alignment—critical for a pillarless design.
  • Door Latch Device: Incorporates a pop-up guide and locking unit for precise positioning and stability, along with a door-sag prevention bracket to support the long, rear-hinged doors over time.

Why the GV90 Matters

With its pillarless coach doors, Genesis is stepping into territory traditionally dominated by brands like Rolls-Royce. This move positions the GV90 as a true statement of intent—an electric luxury SUV designed to elevate the brand’s image to global prestige. Combining advanced electrification technology, luxury craftsmanship, and innovative engineering, the Genesis GV90 aims to redefine what a flagship SUV can be.

The Road Ahead

As development continues, the Genesis GV90 is shaping up to be a technological and design milestone for the Korean luxury brand. The spy photos of the prototype and the series of detailed patents together provide a compelling preview of what’s to come—a groundbreaking SUV that doesn’t just follow trends but sets new standards for pillarless luxury and engineering sophistication.
