Genesis Unveils Magma GT Performance Lineup to Challenge Elite Rivals with Diverse Models
High-performance family includes roadsters, track models, and GT3 road/race cars
Expanding Beyond Homologation Requirements
Genesis has revealed plans for an extensive production run of its mid-engined Magma GT, exceeding the 250-unit minimum needed for GT3 racing homologation. Creative Director Luc Donckerwolke confirmed a “complete life cycle of products,” positioning the concept as merely the entry-level model of an ambitious lineup.

Exclusive Performance Focus
Differing from Genesis’s luxury portfolio, the Magma GT will exist solely as a high-performance halo model—the brand’s most extreme offering yet. Donckerwolke emphasized the concept’s role as the “base model” for a scalable platform blending luxury with racetrack capability.
Planned Variants:
- Magma GT S & GT GTS (performance-enhanced road cars)
- Roadster (drop-top version)
- Lightweight & Club Sport (track-focused editions)
- GT3 Road Car (street-legal homologation special)
- GT3 R (track-only racer)
Each variant will retain Genesis’s signature luxury interiors while prioritizing dynamic prowess.
Powertrain Strategy Pending
Though the concept featured a V8 engine, production specifications remain undecided. Genesis executives cite customer demand and GT3 class requirements as pivotal factors, signaling potential flexibility in power units.
Porsche 911 Influence Without Imitation
Genesis openly acknowledges studying Porsche’s lifecycle management for the 911 but asserts the Magma GT will carve its own identity. Donckerwolke stated the design and engineering will reflect a “distinctly Korean interpretation” of performance. Hyundai CTO Manfred Harrer (ex-Porsche) reinforced this vision:
“We cannot go up against such an icon. We have to find our own way.”
Strategic Market Positioning
Slated for release later this decade, the Magma GT family aims to establish Genesis in the global high-performance arena. Serving as both a flagship road car and the foundation for Genesis’s first GT3 race program, the lineup signals the brand’s long-term commitment to luxury-performance fusion.
