Honda Motor Co is reportedly contemplating a substantial investment of nearly 2 trillion yen (approximately $13.83 billion) for the construction of an electric vehicle (EV) plant in Canada. This potential project, one of Honda’s most significant investments, may include in-house battery production. While the Japanese automaker is assessing various locations, including adjacent to an existing automobile factory in Ontario, a decision is expected by the year-end, with the new plant potentially commencing operations by 2028. This move aligns with Honda’s broader strategy, as it already has plans to initiate EV production and sales in North America in 2026 based on its Honda e:Architecture. The company had previously announced a joint-venture battery plant with LG Energy Solution in Ohio in 2022.
