Hyundai and Kia Join Forces with Samsung for Connected Car and Home Services

Posted on January 5, 2024January 5, 2024 by thecruisectrlr

Hyundai and Kia have entered into a partnership with Samsung to enhance connected car and home services. Through this collaboration, the South Korean automakers will leverage Samsung’s “SmartThings” IoT platform to offer integrated services. The initiative allows users to control home devices such as air conditioning and lights directly from their cars or manage vehicle functions using AI speakers, TVs, and mobile apps. The integration facilitates features like activating “Home Mode” to control home appliances while commuting or using “Away Mode” to manage lights and pre-activate vehicle air conditioning when leaving home. EV owners can benefit from SmartThings integrated home energy management to monitor and optimize car and home energy usage, including adjusting charging times for cost-effectiveness. The companies plan to update infotainment systems through Over-the-Air (OTA) updates and USB updates for existing vehicles, aiming to accelerate technology development and expand services globally.
