Ionna: Automakers Unite for Major EV Charging Network

Posted on February 11, 2024 by thecruisectrlr

Automakers are banding together as Ionna, a joint venture between BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis, receives regulatory approval to commence operations. This collaboration aims to establish a robust and accessible high-powered charging network across North America, boasting plans for over 30,000 chargers. While specifics are currently limited, Ionna intends to inaugurate its first charging station in the United States this year, with future expansion into Canada. These stations will feature multiple high-power chargers compatible with NACS or CCS connectors and will be strategically located at convenient sites with amenities. Moreover, the stations will prioritize renewable energy sources and offer seamless integration with automakers’ in-vehicle and in-app experiences, promising features like plug and charge capability and route planning. Seth Cutler, a seasoned professional with experience in EV infrastructure, has been appointed as Ionna’s CEO, signaling the venture’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
