Kia America concluded 2023 with record-breaking annual sales, reaching 782,451 vehicles, marking a 12.8% YoY increase. The robust performance was fueled by the introduction of the all-new electric Kia EV9 SUV, contributing to the brand’s positive momentum. In December alone, Kia’s electric vehicle (EV) sales, led by the EV9, showcased promising growth, with the brand reporting 2,362 E-GMP-based electric cars sold, a significant 113% YoY increase.

The EV9, Kia’s first three-row electric SUV, made a remarkable debut, outperforming competitors such as the Toyota bZ4X in its first full month on the market. With 1,113 units sold in December, the EV9 nearly doubled the sales of the bZ4X, signaling strong consumer interest. Kia’s strategic focus on rugged SUVs and innovative EVs contributed to elevated demand across its lineup, setting the stage for an accelerated growth trajectory in 2024.
While challenges existed in the EV market, including pricing pressures and eligibility for federal tax credits, Kia’s sales performance in the challenging environment demonstrated the brand’s resilience. The EV9, featuring true SUV capabilities, a spacious interior, and an impressive EPA-estimated range of up to 304 miles, has positioned itself as a noteworthy contender in the electric SUV segment.

Kia’s President and CEO, Seungkyu (Sean) Yoon, expressed confidence in Kia’s trajectory, emphasizing the success of groundbreaking vehicles like the EV9. The brand anticipates further growth in 2024, with plans to introduce six all-new and redesigned products. As Kia prepares to shift EV9 production to its West Point, Georgia facility, the company’s commitment to innovation and exceeding consumer expectations remains evident in its pursuit of sustainable mobility.
