Nissan’s EV Strategy Unveiled: Next-Gen Leaf Expected for 2026

Posted on February 11, 2024February 11, 2024 by thecruisectrlr

At the Chicago Auto Show, we had the opportunity to discuss Nissan’s electric vehicle (EV) strategy with Trisha Jung, the senior director for EV Strategy and Transformation at Nissan. Our conversation delved into the future of EVs and Nissan’s upcoming plans. Through Jung’s insights, it became apparent that the next-generation Nissan Leaf is slated for a 2026 debut. While automakers often refrain from commenting on future products, Jung confirmed that the current Leaf will continue through the 2025 model year, paving the way for its successor. Additionally, Nissan’s European branch hinted that upcoming EV models, including the Leaf, will draw design inspiration from recent concept cars like the Chill-Out. Given its platform similarities with the Ariya and the evolving market trends, the Chill-Out concept aligns closely with the anticipated direction of the next Leaf. Speculations suggest that the 2026 Leaf could leverage dual motors, offer all-wheel drive, and feature NACS charging compatibility, reflecting Nissan’s forward-thinking approach to EV technology. Stay tuned for further updates as Nissan prepares to unveil its next-generation Leaf, potentially reshaping the landscape of electric mobility.
