Subaru Unveils Two STI-Branded Concept Cars Ahead of 2025 Japan Mobility Show

In a coordinated effort, Japanese automakers are taking turns previewing their upcoming models ahead of the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. After Toyota and Mazda, it’s Subaru’s turn to showcase two STI-branded concept cars.

The first concept, called the Performance-E STI, is a fully electric vehicle with a fastback silhouette, slimmer headlights, and a narrower hood. Its front bumper features a sharper, more angular design, and the wheels appear to wear gold aero covers.

The second concept, called the Performance-B STI, is a combustion-engine vehicle that resembles a GR Corolla-fighting hot hatch. It has a noticeably larger roof spoiler and bulging fenders, suggesting a WRX-based hatch. Subaru confirms that the mystery ICE is paired with its symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, but other details remain unknown.

Surprising Move

It’s surprising to see a gas-powered STI, given that Subaru stated a few months ago that the badge would be reserved for electric cars going forward.

Subaru originally previewed the Performance-B STI concept in early June. The WRX STI was discontinued in 2022 due to stricter emissions regulations, but the company launched the S210 special edition earlier this year as a full-fat STI model.

What’s Next?

Both concept cars will debut on October 29 at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, alongside the Trailseeker, Forester Wilderness, Outback Wilderness, and the 1983 GL Family Huckster. Whether either model will reach production remains to be seen.
