A 2017 Range Rover Evoque with a 2.0 Ingenium diesel engine recently visited The Car Edition workshop, plagued by a rattling noise on cold start.

Despite having only 59,000 miles on the clock, this vehicle required its third timing chain replacement – a woefully premature failure that is hardly surprising given Land Rover’s well-documented reliability issues.

In a recent video, Akos walks viewers through the full timing chain replacement process, highlighting the causes, symptoms, and repair procedures. The same 2.0 Ingenium engine is used in several Jaguar and Land Rover models, including the XE, XF, F-Pace, Discovery Sport, and Velar, all of which are prone to similar problems.

Vehicle owners should be on the lookout for warning signs such as cold start rattles, rough engine running, or illuminated engine warning lights, which often indicate a failing timing chain. The repair costs £2,050 + VAT and typically takes 6-8 hours to complete.

The video emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and selecting a reliable garage for the repair, as premature timing chain failure is becoming increasingly common in these engines.
