Toyota Unveils New Land Cruiser FJ Ahead of Japan Mobility Show
Toyota has finally unveiled its new Land Cruiser FJ, a smaller and more affordable off-roader that is nearly 11 inches shorter than the Land Cruiser 250. Unfortunately, the new FJ won’t be coming to America.
Key Features and Specifications
The new Land Cruiser FJ shares a platform with Toyota’s Hilux Champ and measures 180.1 inches long, 73.0 inches tall, and 77.2 inches wide, with a 101.6-inch wheelbase. It is powered by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 161 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with a part-time four-wheel-drive system and six-speed transmission. While these specs may not be impressive enough for the American market, the FJ is designed to be a capable off-roader.
Customization and Design
Like the Hilux Champ, the new FJ is customizable, with MOLLE panels for attaching equipment and removable front and rear corner bumpers for improved repairability. The SUV has a traditional boxy design with round headlights, chunky cladding, and a rear-mounted spare tire. Inside, the FJ features a big gear selector and a landscape-oriented screen on the bulky dash.
Future Plans
Toyota is also developing an electric vehicle called the Land Hopper, designed to traverse off-road trails and go beyond where the Land Cruiser can take you. However, the company doesn’t have a release date set for the Hopper. The new Land Cruiser FJ is set to launch in Japan around the middle of 2026 and will make its public debut at the Japan Mobility Show later this month.
