U.S. Study Reveals EV Owners Spend 42 Minutes at Paid Fast Chargers Per Session

Posted on January 5, 2024January 5, 2024 by thecruisectrlr

A recent study conducted by Energetics on the public charging habits of electric vehicle (EV) owners in the United States has shown that consumers spend significantly more time charging at free stations compared to paid ones. The study analyzed 2.4 million charging sessions over three years and found that the average paid fast-charging session at a non-Tesla charger was 42 minutes, dropping to 31 minutes when Tesla Superchargers were included. In contrast, the average free public charging session took 1 hour and 18 minutes. The data highlight the need for improvements in charging times to encourage broader EV adoption. Charging analyst Loren McDonald suggests that the arrival of new EV models and increased deployment of fast chargers could contribute to reducing charging times and enhancing consumer satisfaction.
