Following the debut of Hyundai’s premium electric SUV, the company’s Head of Design disclosed that they’re evaluating an off-road-focused variant, the IONIQ 9 XRT, as well as a high-performance edition. Recently, a prototype equipped with off-road tires, a winch, and elevated suspension was sighted in California by KindelAuto.
Two Specialized Initiatives Underway
At the IONIQ 9 reveal event, Simon Loasby, Hyundai’s Head of Design, shared that the brand is pursuing these variant concepts. “We’re developing two separate initiatives—N and XRT—beyond the core models,” Loasby explained. “Incorporating such specialized versions is standard in our vehicle creation process.”
IONIQ 9 XRT: Aimed at Adventure Seekers
Based on these leaked images, Hyundai appears to be prioritizing the XRT variant ahead of the N performance model, tailoring it for buyers who desire rugged, exploration-oriented SUVs. This strategy highlights Hyundai’s goal to venture outside conventional luxury segments, drawing in a wider audience that appreciates durable performance paired with upscale amenities.
Loasby underscored this portfolio expansion, noting, “These variants each fulfill a specific role, much like chess pieces. It’s a method to sharpen our lineup’s distinctions.”
Broadening Hyundai’s EV Ambitions
As the IONIQ 9 N and XRT advance in development, Hyundai aims to dominate the premium electric SUV sector. These advancements bolster the company’s image for innovative EV advancements while broadening its reach to varied buyers, including speed aficionados and trailblazing explorers.
The introduction of these editions should reinforce Hyundai’s stature as a key force in the worldwide EV landscape, rivaling high-end rivals with forward-thinking, user-focused offerings.
