Stellantis Expands Brake Pedal Recall for Dodge and Alfa Romeo Plug-In Hybrids

Stellantis has added nearly 6,000 vehicles to an ongoing safety recall involving defective brake pedals in two of its plug-in hybrid models. This brings the total number of affected U.S. vehicles to approximately 27,000.

Key Details:

  • Affected Models: 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV (3,286 units) and 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV (2,688 units)
  • Issue: Brake pedals may collapse during hard braking, increasing collision risk
  • Repair Solution: Dealers will reinforce pedal arms with a nut and bolt (replacement only if pedal is already broken)
  • Safety Protocol: Owners should use the electronic parking brake if pedal failure occurs

Recall Background:
This expansion follows an initial recall of 21,000 vehicles in 2023 for the same issue. The problematic brake pedal arms, manufactured in Italy, affect both models built at Stellantis’ Pomigliano plant.

Safety Systems & Incident Reports:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) may activate if collision risk is detected
  • One accident reported in Europe, with 15 total cases documented worldwide
  • No injuries currently linked to the defect

Owners of affected vehicles are urged to contact their dealers for repairs. Both the Hornet and Tonale plug-in hybrids share the same platform, which contributes to the widespread nature of this safety issue.
